What is Orford like?

Hi guys!

I’m a pianist and will be going to Orford this summer for piano. This is my first time to a summer festival and I was just wondering what it’s going to be like. Have any of you been before?

First of all, congratulations! You will have an invaluable experience that will help you grow both musically and personally. The admission coordinator will email you the detailed info-route which tells you almost everything you need to know about the program.

Before you arrive at Orford, make sure that your pieces are well prepared; you will gain more from your masterclasses and/or lessons. Also, there is only one concert per week so spaces are limited.

Create a weekly schedule to manage your time effectively. Find out when you will have your lessons, masterclasses, concerts and other events so that you will know when you can practice. I noticed that most students preferred to get their work done earlier in the day so that they could relax or go out for a drink in the evening.

If you are interested in outdoor activities, such as hiking and horseback riding, bring your running shoes and other things that you may need. Check out the weather before you get there so that you can prepare appropriate clothing.

It’s important to work hard but don’t forget to socialize and have fun! You will meet talented musicians from all over the world who share similar interests and experiences. I still keep in touch with several friends that I met at Orford.

Let me know if you have any further questions. 🙂
