Joelle Tan

Joelle Tan

Canadian-born soprano, Joelle Tan, is versatile and dedicated artist, performing both recital and operatic repertoire.
Ms. Tan has made many appearances on the operatic stage. She has performed as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Second Spirit in Die Zauberflöte, and in the chorus of Cosi Fan Tutte, all under the baton of Maestro Mario Bernardi. In the 2009/2010 season, she performed as the Fairy Godmother in Jules Massenet’s Cendrillon, with The Royal Conservatory Orchestra led by Uri Mayer at Koerner Hall. In addition, she was cast as one of the three shop girls in the world premiere of Dean Burry’s Pandora’s Locker. Other roles include Second Woman in Purcell’s Dido and Anaeus and Fanchette in Offenbach’s Le mariage aux lanternes. She has performed with The Vancouver Recital Society as the Shepherd Boy from Tosca, Festival Vancouver in Rena Sharon’s Songs of the Earth, The Vancouver Opera Children’s Chorus in Turandot and Werther, and The UBC Opera Ensemble in La Bohème.
She was a national prizewinner in the 2010 Canadian Music Competition and scholarship recipient of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Competition 2011. Festivals include Early Music Vancouver’s Baroque Vocal Programme, Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music, and Casalmaggiore International Festival in Italy.
Joelle is a graduate of the Performance Diploma Program and BMus at The Glenn Gould School of Music, where she studied with Jean MacPhail. She is currently pursuing a degree in French Linguistics in Paris, France.
