Keith Hamm

Keith Hamm, Violist A native of Rosebud, Alberta, violist, Keith Hamm is rapidly gaining recognition as a dynamic and exciting young presence in the Canadian music scene. Upon completion of his studies, Keith was named Principal Violist of The Canadian Opera Company Orchestra becoming the youngest member of the ensemble and one of the youngest principals in North America. Recently, Keith was also Acting Assistant Principal Violist of the National Ballet of Canada.

Keith is an alumnus of The International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove, the Sarasota Music Festival, Morningside Music Bridge, classes at The Banff Centre, and the Chamber Music Program at Le Domaine Forget. Keith has also performed as Principal violist with The Banff Festival Orchestra, The Royal Conservatory Orchestra, and the Sarasota Festival Orchestra. He is a winner of the Stratford Symphony’s Emerging Artists Competition, The Glenn Gould School Chamber Music Competition and was recently featured on CBC Radio 2 as one of this year Next! artists.

Mr. Hamm received his training The Glenn Gould Sc hool under the instruction of Steven Dann and at The Mount Royal Conservatory studying with Nicholas Pulos. Other influences include Pinchas Zukerman, Roger Tapping, Ian Swenson, and members of the London Haydn Quartet, and the Cleveland Quartet.

A dedicated chamber musician, Keith has shared the stage with Anssi Kartunnen, Ernst Kovacic, Richard Lester, Robert Max and members of the St. Lawrence String Quartet and Smithsonian Chamber Players. Keith has been invited to perform at the Ravinia Festival as guest violist with the Royal Conservatory’s ARC Ensemble, the SweetWater Music Festival in Owen Sound, and at Music By The Sea in Bamfield, BC
