Pianist Leonard Hayes, a native of Dallas, TX, recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Lawrence University Conservatory in Appleton, WI. While at Lawrence, he studied under the tutelage of Dmitri Novgorodsky and Catherine Kautsky; and studied abroad at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Dutch pianist Matthijs Verschoor. Leonard is the winner of the 2011 Debose National Piano Competition, 2011 Wisconsin Music Teachers Association (WMTA) Badger Collegiate Piano Competition, Honorable Mention in the 2010 Zelpha Wells National Piano Competition for Collegiate Artists. Leonard is a winner of the Neale Silva Young Artist Competition (2009), and 3rd prize winner of the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM) Piano Competition (2009). Leonard has performed in solo master classes for acclaimed pianists such as Robert McDonald, Nelita True and Jade Simmons. In March 2011, Leonard was invited to perform in both solo and collaborative master classes at the Music Teacher’s National Association Convention, conducted by Robert Weirich and the duo Warren Jones and Denyce Graves. Currently, Leonard is on the piano faculty at the Appleton Music Academy.
