Zou Yu

Zou Yu started the violin at age of four, and shortly began her studies in Music Elementary School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory with Lei Fang. Zou moved to the United States in 2008 where she studies with her current Milan Vitek at Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

Zou’s participation at various international music academies include the Aspen Music Festival and School (Colorado), the Tanglewood Music Center(Boston), the National Orchestra Institute (Washington D.C.), Great Wall International Music Summer Camp (Beijing) and NYSOS (New York). From 2010 to 2011, she was awarded a 2-year fellowship from Aspen Music Festival to study with Paul Kantor. Zou played in Carnegie Hall when she was participating in the New York String Seminar program in 2011. She visited Schotch College, Melbourne, Australia and performed with the High S chool of Shanghai Conservatory Orchestra in 2006. In 2008, she participated in a New York Philharmonic concert and communication program which she played in the orchestra with musicians from New York Phiharmonic at the Shanghai Grand Theater. Zou will be play a solo piece ‘Subito’ by W. Lutoslawski at John.F Kennedy center this coming April.

In 2011, Zou was appointed concertmaster of Oberlin Chamber Orchestra and a member of Akron and Canton Symphony Orchestra.
